BJP files intervention plea in Amravati court

Maharashtra BJP filed an intervention application in the Amravati court in connection with last week`s seizure of Rs 1 crore cash.

Mumbai: Maharashtra BJP on Wednesday filed an
intervention application in the Amravati court in connection
with last week`s seizure of Rs 1 crore cash, which was
allegedly a campaign fund for local Congress candidates for
tomorrow`s civic polls.

The cash was being taken to Amravati city from Nagpur by
a car when the police intercepted it.

"Amravati BJP president, Dr Pradeep Shingore, today filed
an intervention application in the Amravati district court,"
state BJP spokesperson Madhav Bhandari said here.

"The application states that police have registered
inappropriate cases to hush up the matter due to the state
government`s pressure," he said, adding that hearing on the
party`s plea would be held on February 20.

Bhandari said that Amravati police, while registering
the case, did not mention that the money was being transported
in an illegal manner. "What was the source?" he asked, adding
that even the local MLA had said that Congress wanted to
distribute the money among the poor, which clearly meant the
party was luring the voters with cash.
