Thane: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said all attempts would be made to start the work on the proposed Thane Metro project this year itself and emphasised that there shall be no inordinate delay in completion of the project.

"We will make all attempts to start the work on Thane Metro project this year itself. There will be no inordinate delay in completion of the project unlike it happened in the case of Mumbai Metro One," Fadnavis said.

He was addressing a gathering at the inauguration of the renovated Town Hall here.

Mumbai's first metro service on 12-km Versova-Andheri- Ghatkopar route started last year in June. The work on the project had began in 2008 and was delayed by a quite long time.

The route under the Thane project stretches from Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavali.

Thane guardian minister Eknath Shinde on the occasion said Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and PWD, was ready to construct the district headquarters of the new Palghar.
