NCP leader’s son mows down child, held

Senior NCP leader Abdul Qadeer Maulana’s 17-year-old son was on Wednesday detained after his SUV car knocked down two minor girls and their uncle, killing the younger girl, Navya Prakash Sonawane, on the spot.

Aurangabad: Senior NCP leader Abdul Qadeer Maulana’s 17-year-old son was on Wednesday detained after his SUV car knocked down two minor girls and their uncle, killing the younger girl, Navya Prakash Sonawane, on the spot.

Giving more information about the case, the police said that the NCP leader’s son was driving the SUV when the mishap tok place.
This was also confirmed by the footage obtained from the CCTV cameras that were recently installed at the TV centre square, which captured the accident on Tuesday morning.

The police also arrested the driver of the car, who was seated beside the minor and both will be produced in court today.

Maulana is the state vice-president of the NCP.

Soon after the accident, an irate mob roughed up the suspects and tried to burn the car, but the police reached the spot timely and took the situation under control.
Senior inspector Pratap Baviskar of Cidco police station said that the deceased, Navya and her three-year-old sister were on their way to a temple along with their uncle, Shirish Sonawane.

They were knocked down by the car when they were crossing the road, he alleged.

Sonawane and his niece were later admitted to a private hospital, where their condition is reported to be stable. Chaus was recently appointed driver by the NCP leader. The SUV car was heading for the Chikalthana airport to a see-off another son of Maulana.
