New Delhi, June 21: With only four days left for the
last date of filing of nominations for July 15 presidential
elections, as many as 28 people, including eminent missile
technologist A P J Abdul Kalam and Left party candidate
Lakshmi Sahgal, have filed their nominations till today.

However, of these 28 nominations, candidature of 12
persons have been rejected as their nomination papers failed
to carry mandatory criteria required for contesting the
election to the highest constitutional office, including the
security deposit of Rs 15,000 and a certified copy of the
electoral roll, Rajya Sabha sources said.

Along with Kalam, who is almost certain to win the
election with the support of major political formations
besides NDA and Congress, and Sahgal, fielded by left parties
to give a symbolic fight, the nomination of 12 others were
also under scrutiny.

While two sets of nominations each have been filed on
behalf of Kalam and Sahgal, other candidates were unlikely to
stand scrutiny as most of them had neither paid the security
deposit nor complied with various statutory requirements.
