New Delhi: Congress leaders on Wednesday reacted strongly at the elevation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s close confidant Amit Shah as national president of the party.
Abhishek Manu Shinghvi pointed that, “A person who is out on bail and who was banned from his home state of Gujarat for two years by the Supreme Court is now BJP president.”
The former Gujarat home minister was granted bail in connection with the Tulsiram Prajapati and Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter cases, and recently was exempted by the special CBI court from appearing before it in the same.
Meanwhile reacting at the appointment of the new BJP chief, another Congress leader Digvijay Singh said that the good days are here for only two people in the entire country - PM Modi and his close aide Amit Shah.
Controversial yet politically suave Shah became the youngest ever party president at 50 - scripting history in the BJP where veterans have called the shots since its inception.
The announcement of Shah being appointed as the BJP chief was made by Home Minister Rajnath Singh at a press conference whom he succeeds.
It took Shah less than a year to catapult himself from being Gujarat BJP strongman to the party`s supremo on the national stage.
One of the reasons for Shah`s rise in the party was his extra-ordinary political performance in Uttar Pradesh where as BJP`s general secretary in-charge he led the party to a dream run wresting 71 of the total 80 Lok Sabha seats in the politically crucial state.
