New Delhi, Oct 22: BJP today sought to downplay
VHP's decision to keep away from electioneering in the
assembly poll-bound five states saying that in the past too,
it had not campaigned from the party's platform.

Asked to comment on VHP's decision not to campaign for
any party during the coming assembly elections, BJP spokesman
Prakash Javadekar told reporters that previously also VHP did
not campaign from BJP platform.

On whether it would make any difference to the electoral
prospects of BJP, he said voters were aware these days and
were capable of making the right choice.

VHP Secretary General Pravin Togadia has said the VHP
would have no role to play in the coming assembly elections in
five states and would not campaign for or against any
political party.

Javadekar also sought to ignore questions whether there
were serious differences between VHP and BJP after the Sangh
Parivar outfit charged the centre with conniving with the
Mulayam Singh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh to carry out
repression on Ram bhakts proceeding to Ayodhya.
