Brar attackers jailed in Britain

Four Sikhs, convicted of attacking former Indian Army officer Lt Gen (retd) Kuldeep Singh Brar were Tuesday sentenced to various lengthy prison terms.

London: Four Sikhs, convicted of attacking former Indian Army officer Lt Gen (retd) Kuldeep Singh Brar -- who led Operation Blue Star against Sikh militants at the Golden Temple in 1984, were Tuesday sentenced to various lengthy prison terms.
Mandeep Singh Sandhu, 34, and Dilbag Singh, 37, were each sentenced to 14 years imprisonment, Harjit Kaur, 39, to 11 years and Barjinder Singh Sangha, 33, to 10 years and six months in jail at Southwark Crown Court in London, the BBC reported. Mandeep Singh Sandhu of Birmingham, Dilbag Singh and Harjit Kaur -- the last two from London -- were convicted of slashing Brar`s throat. Brar was on a holiday in London with his wife Meena and the couple were targeted while they were walking to the Mostyn Hotel in Bryanston Street Sep 30 last year. The retired army officer remains on the hit-list of many Sikh militant groups and usually stays in a high-security compound in the cantonment area in Mumbai. He has been provided Z-category protection by the Indian government.
