Chennai, Nov 12: The Centre tonight withdrew its
decision to deploy CISF security at "The Hindu" office, but
directed the Tamil Nadu government to scale up the security
provided to the daily's Editor-in-Chief N Ram to "Y" from "X"
category.

State Chief Secretary, Lakshmi Pranesh, in a statement
here, said the government received a letter by fax from Union
Joint Secretary (Home) Harminder Singh around 8 pm informing
that the ministry had decided not to deploy CISF personal to
provide security to the Hindu office.

Police said Ram's security was being upgraded from 'X"
category to 'Y".

Earlier in the day, Ram said he was withdrawing his
request for central security as Chief Minister Jayalalithaa
had said that the state police were fully complying with the
Supreme Court's order, staying the arrest warrants issued by
the Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker K Kalimuthu against five
Hindu staffers and there was 'absolutely no threat to the
daily's office'.
