New Delhi, Nov 26: The war of words over the release of detenus in Jammu and Kashmir hotted up today with Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani rejecting Congress' claim that the state government's action had the clerance of central intelligence agencies and the main opposition party accusing him of "misleading" the country.

Contradicting Congress President Sonia Gandhi's claim that the state government had got clearance from the central intelligence agencies for the release of militants, Advani said there was no truth in this and asserted that the Centre was not consulted.

"The Jammu and Kashmir Government freed the militants without consulting the Centre though it is being said that it was done so on the advice of the Centre. This is all lies and there is no truth in it," Advani told the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting here chaired by Prime Minister Atal Bihari.

Congress spokesman S Jaipal Reddy, on the other hand, insisted that the detenus were freed after getting clearance from Central agencies and accused Advani of "misleading the country with a mischievous intent" keeping an eye on Gujarat elections.
