New Delhi, Mar 06: While feeling good about the 'feel good’
feeling in the country, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani
apprehends that it might lead to complacency in the BJP and has
cautioned party leaders to tread carefully.

''The possibility of complacency setting in as a consequence
of over-confidence in the party worries me, which is why I keep
telling my partymen to tread cautiously,'' Advani said in an
interview.

To a question on whether the BJP wanted to win a majority in
the upcoming elections and form a government at the centre without
the NDA allies, Advani said it was not possible for one party
to rule the country.

Asserting that he wanted the association of the NDA allies in
future also, Advani said they had helped in making federalism
work better than it would have if the BJP was in power
as a single party.

''Merely winning the elections is not our objective this time.
The objective is to play a decisive role alongwith the NDA,'' he
said.

Advani admitted that the elections would not have been
advanced and would have taken place on schedule in September if the
BJP had not won the assembly elections in December last year in the
three states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh and Rajasthan.

Talking about film stars and other prominent persons joining
the BJP, Advani said the party was not taking the stars. ''They
are joining us.''

He said that Maneka Gandhi had been a member of the NDA even
When she was not a member of the BJP and her joining the party had
nothing to do with the 'Gandhi' name attached to her.

The Deputy Prime Minister said population control and
inter-linking of rivers would be the two main objectives, alongwith
making India a developed country by 2020, if the BJP returned to
power in the coming elections.
