Mumbai, Aug 19: Expressing full faith in retired Supreme Court Judge P B Sawant, noted Gandhian Anna Hazare today said he would request the former to probe charges of
corruption against four Maharashtra ministers and also the trusts headed by him.

"There seems to be some misunderstanding... In fact, I had suggested Sawant's name to the state government as I have full faith in him," Hazare told reporters here.

The anti-corruption crusader's reaction came after Sawant yesterday refused to head the single-member judicial panel to probe charges of corruption against four DF ministers and trusts headed by Hazare.

State government had announced Sawant's name to probe charges of corruption against minister Suresh Jain, Padamsinh Patil, Vijaykumar Gavit and Nawab Malik on a recommendation by Hazare.

Hazare said he had only stated the probe could not be
completed in a specific time-frame by a single person so he
had suggested setting up a three-member panel. "But after the
government expressed its inability, I agreed for a two-member
inquiry committee," he added.

Hazare, who is leaving here for Pune, said "I will personally meet Sawant and request him to conduct the probe".

The social worker, who ended his nine-day hunger strike on Sunday after the government agreed to most of his demands, underwent a medical checkup and is in fine condition.

Meanwhile, government's efforts to persuade Sawant to
continue on the probe panel are on and officials are "in
touch" with him, official sources said.
