London: Actor Tom Hiddleston tries to avoid social media because he believes it gives off a "distorted reflection" of society.

The 32-year-old star admits he prefers to stay away from the likes of Twitter and Facebook because it doesn`t give him a true idea of his fans, reported Contactmusic. "I try to stay away from it to be honest because I think it becomes a distorted reflection. The enthusiasm I find is quite belying and it`s just gratifying that there are people out there who are just interested in the work and the performances and the characters," he said. The `Thor: The Dark World` hunk believes it`s important to respect his fans because without them admiring his career, he`d be in no position to be referred to as an actor. "I always think an actor can`t call themselves an actor without an audience, so if the audience is there then that`s great."
