New Delhi, Apr 21: The chief of Kerala's Congress unit K Muraleedharan today met Congress president Sonia Gandhi on the eve of the latter's crucial parleys with his father and senior leader K Karunakaran here in the backdrop of the former chief minister's defiance in the recent Rajya Sabha polls.
PCC president Muraleedharan, son of Karunakaran, told
reporters that everything would be settled amicably but there
were indications that Gandhi may take some action following
the crisis in Congress in Kerala to maintain discipline and to
end factionalism.

Karunakaran is arriving here tonight and is likely to
meet Gandhi tomorrow. The senior leader, who caused ripples in
the party by fielding a rebel nominee in the polls, had held a
telephonic conversation with the Congress president on
Saturday.

Earlier, at the daily briefing party spokesman S Jaipal
Reddy told reporters that it was Karunakaran who had taken the
initiative to call up Gandhi.

Asked if the KPCC president has signaled aligning with
CPM in Kerala, Reddy said "I am not aware of any such report
and I can't react in abstract".

Earlier in the day, Gandhi also held a meeting with AICC
general secretary Ambika Soni and two party observers for
Kerala Ghulam Nabi Azad and R K Dhawan who had recommended a
"certain course of action" to Gandhi last week.

Asked what type of action the two observers have
recommended, he said "any action to maintain discipline and
unity in the party".

This was the first meeting with Gandhi or the three
leaders after submitting the report.
