New Delhi: Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad on Thursday called BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi “a beast”, after the latter hit out at Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi at rallies in Chhattisgarh.

Launching a personal attack, Modi had said that on health grounds Sonia Gandhi should let the "shehzada" take over Congress.

"Madam, you are ill. Let the shehzada (prince) take over," Modi said, referring to Rahul as "shehzada".

Reacting to Modi’s attack, Shakeel Ahmad tweeted, “Only a beast in the disguise of a human can taunt or pass satirical comments on some body`s illness. It is evident that he is mentally sick.”

The party also rebutted Modi’s "low level" remarks and demanded an apology.

"We know Modi himself has no limits of decency, but he should at least think of the dignity of the party which has made him its PM candidate and apologise for the low level remarks", party spokesman Meem Afzal told reporters.

It may be recalled that Sonia Gandhi has been travelling abroad for medical check-ups.
