Chandigarh, July 09: Union Minister of State for Home I D Swami today said no more demolition drives would be carried out in the city before alternative arrangements for
the affected people were made.
"Our policy is that no one should be homeless. If proper
planned colonies for slum dwellers are made, then haphazard
growth of slums can be checked," he told reporters here.
Former MP and member of the national executive of the BJP
Satya Pal Jain, who accompanied Swami, said that the plan of
the city made by Frenchman Le Corbusier years ago was
insufficient.
"The need of the hour was to provide shelter to those
living in slums here to make the city slum-free and to
preserve its character as 'city beautiful, he added.
