Mumbai: Director Anand L Rai, who has directed Sonam Kapoor in his upcoming film `Raanjhanaa`, feels she is underutilised as an actress.
Rai, of `Tanu Weds Manu` fame, has teamed up with southern star Dhanush and Sonam for `Raanjhanaa`.
"I think Sonam is under-utilised. The kind of performance she has given in this film is amazing. The way she was involved with the film was tremendous. Wait and watch Sonam," Rai said.
Sonam, daughter of actor Anil Kapoor, made her debut with `Saawariya` in 2007 which did not do well at the box office. After a string of unsuccessful films including `Thank You`, `Mausam` and `Players`, she is now gearing up for `Raanjhanaa`, where she will be seen essaying the role of a girl-next-door.
The 27-year-old has big projects like `Bhaag Milkha Bhaag` and `Khoobsurat` remake, besides a YRF untitled film opposite Ayushmann Khurrana.
The world may be familiar with Sonam`s fashionista side, but the director reveals that in reality she is a simple girl.
"After meeting and talking to Sonam and her family while narrating her this film, I realised that she is a middle class girl. She is next-door-girl. She behaves in the same way as any girl would behave," Rai said.
`Raanjhanaa`, slated to release on June 21, is a story of a Hindu boy who falls in love with a Muslim girl.
