Ulfa’s formal response to PM’s letter awaited: Goswami

New Delhi, Dec 07: Noted Assamese litterateur Indira Goswami, negotiating between the Ulfa and the Centre, today said she had talked with the leadership of the Northeast militant outfit following communication from the Prime Minister's Office expressing willingness to hold discussions with it.

New Delhi, Dec 07: Noted Assamese litterateur Indira Goswami, negotiating between the Ulfa and the Centre, today said she had talked with the leadership of the Northeast militant outfit following communication from the Prime Minister's Office expressing willingness to hold discussions with it.
The Prime Minister Office's had written to her expressing "willingness for talks with the Ulfa," Goswami told a news agency today.

The Jnanpith winner said she had discussed the letter with Ulfa chief Paresh Barua and the insurgent outfit's formal response to it was likely to be formulated after he deliberated about it with his top lieutenants.

The letter, from the Prime Minister's special advisor M K Narayanan, came in response to her communication to Singh last month.

Singh shared with her the "agonies and sorrows" of Assam, according to Goswami . However, she declined to divulge more details.

Goswami had met Singh here on November 16 after which she had said that without the "sovereignty" issue on the table, the Ulfa would not participate in negotiations.
