Vellore, Apr 04: MDMK supremo Vaiko Saturday asked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa whether she was prepared to quit if the ruling AIADMK fared poorly in the Lok Sabha elections as predicted by the latest opinion polls.
Joining issue with Jayalalithaa for denouncing the opinion polls, Vaiko said at an election rally here that the AIADMK would face a rout in the May 10 elections and sought to know whether she would consider the election outcome as an interim referendum on her government and quit office.
Refuting Jayalalithaa`s charge that he had not done any thing for the welfare of people of Tamil Nadu, he said he was instrumental in securing an assurance from the Prime Minister to implement the "Sethu Samudram" project.
On her stand that leaders like him posed a danger to the country, Vaiko said if he was such a person one crore people would not have signed a memorandum seeking his release after his detention in the POTA case.
Vaiko was lodged in the central prison here for nearly 18 months after he was detained in 2002 for his alleged support to the banned Sri Lankan outfit LTTE.
