Ayodhya, July 31: Hours after the death of Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas president Mahant Ramchandra Paramhans, accusations and counter accusations between VHP and its rivals
flew fast and thick over the possible cause of his death.

VHP international president Ashok Singhal told reporters that the reported denial of an audience to the Mahant by Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani in May last and "prominence" given to Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati over VHP to resolve the Ayodhya imbroglio was "taken to heart" by him that probably caused the first heart attack in June last.

He claimed that the Centre's move of bringing the Shankaracharya to the forefront had "badly hurt" him and this was disclosed by the Mahant when Singhal had met him at the
Sanjay Gandhi PGI in Lucknow recently.

One of the doctors of the PGI, Dr P K Goyal, who was then attending the Mahant, was also present when he made this disclosure, Singhal claimed.

The Mahant of the famous Hanuman Garhi Temple Gyan Das, on the other hand, accused the vhp leaders of getting the ventilators on Mahant removed leading to the death.

Singhal took strong exception to the accusations of Gyan Das that the VHP leaders had asked for the removal of the ventilators leading to the Mahant's death. "Only those with
sick mind could cook up such stories," he added.

Mahant Gyan Das alleged that Singhal and Praveen Togadia had asked for the removal of the ventilators which led to the death of the Mahant.

Das said that the VHP was trying to conduct the cremation of the Mahnat which traditionally should have been decided jointly by the saints of nirvani, nirmohi and digambar akharas.
