Jaipur: Accusing the previous BJP government
in Rajasthan of being mired in big land scams, Chief Minister
Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday said corruption became a norm when the
saffron party was in power in the state.

Addressing a state level conference of Congress`s OBC
cell here, Gehlot slammed the previous regime for "corruption,
violence and misrule".

Alleging that corruption flourished from top to bottom
when the party was at the helm in the state, the Chief
Minister said, "It (previous BJP government) indulged in big
land scams, it ruined agriculturists and corruption touched
unprecedented heights while the party was in office" he
alleged.

He said that though the people finally voted the party
out of power last year, the state was already reeling under a
debt of Rs 83,000 crore by the time they did so.

Showering praise over his own party, Gehlot said it never
compromised on ethics and continued to contribute to nation
building in a major way.

"If former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi made the country
independent in terms of foodgrains, global recession produced
little impact in the country under the effective leadership of
Dr Manmohan Singh," he said.
