Winslet is married to Sam Mendes. The couple has a son named Joe Alfie Winslet Mendes. Winslet had earlier married director Jim Threapleton in 1998, with whom she had a daughter, Mia Honey. They divorced in 2001.

She was also involved with actor-writer Stephen Tredre for five years. The actor died of bone cancer. She also has a short lived relation with Rufus Sewell.
