Islamabad, May 28: Expressing his government's resolve to work for the progress of "normalisation process" with India, Pakistan's Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali today said Aziz Ahmad Khan's appointment as the country's new high commissioner to India was a step forward in that direction.
Jamali, briefing the cabinet on the progress of the talks here, reaffirmed his government's resolve to achieve progress towards dialogue between the two neighbours but said the process should move forward in a structured manner, an official press release said here.

"We will move step by step," Jamali said, and referred to Khan's appointment, which was officially announced today.

Jamali also said that all contentious issues including Kashmir need to be addressed meaningfully to achieve peace in the region.

Pakistan was keen to achieve peace, harmony and progress in the South Asian region and would never be found wanting in efforts in that direction, he said.

On the raging confrontation between the government and the opposition parties over the legality of President Pervez Musharraf's constitutional amendments, Jamali said the dignity and honour of parliament was the collective responsibility of all elected representatives to ensure the stability and continuity of the democratic system.

Parliament has been shut down for several months due to the confrontation and the same issue disrupted the proceedings of the Punjab provincial assembly for the past two days.
