London, Oct 14: Claiming that the just-concluded elections in Pakistan were rigged to bring "Talibanization" in the country, Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has appealed to UN and US to take "serious notice of naked rigging" and demanded re-polls under the supervision of UN team.
"The MQM has solid evidences of rigging, and MQM has firm
belief that through manipulation these election results were
changed to bring Pakistani-Taliban in the assemblies and in
the corridor of the power," its chief Altaf Hussain said in a
statement here.

He urged UN secretary-general Kofi Annan and US president
George W Bush to take "immediate and serious notice of naked
rigging in Pakistan general elections" and prevail upon
president Pervez Musharraf to declare the elections "null and
void."

"In short I would say that these elections were not held
to restore democracy in Pakistan but to bring Talibanization
in Pakistan. The MQM totally rejects these rigged results and
demands that re-election should be held under the supervision
of UN team.

"I would like to assure the international community that
95 per cent of people of Pakistan are against
Talibanization and I would like to express that the 95 per
cent of the people are democratic minded and liberal and are
against all types of religious fanaticisms," Hussain said.

"I would request the international community to take
serious notice of long delay in the announcement of the
results particularly in Karachi, southern Pakistan," he said.
