Islamabad, July 2: Denouncing the interference of ISI in the political affairs of the country, former premier Benazir Bhutto's Pakistan Peoples Party has demanded an internal inquiry against the intelligence agency accusing it
of harassing party probables in the October polls.
"PPP stands by its statement that its members were approached by officials, including a Colonel and a major of the ISI and asked to change their political parties, political leadership and political allegiances in violation of the Constitution guaranteeing freedom of association," the party
said in a statement here.
"More dangerously, the candidates were asked to provide their bio-datas and photographs," it said adding that there were many incidents of interference by the agency in the elections of local bodies and the presidential referendum.
Reacting to the denials by the officials to the party's allegations, PPP said "it is not demanding a public inquiry at this stage. But an internal inquiry is in the interest of both the institution and the country."
It said that the party has taken note of the official denial. "But a mere denial is insufficient."
