Saarc trade fair kicks off in Nepal

Kathmandu, Oct 25: Nepalese Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand inaugurated the fourth Saarc trade fair here today with a call for a united effort to foster regional and bilateral trade among member states.

"All member countries should move forward united for the
development of industry, tourism, agriculture and water
resources and the upliftment of the economic condition of the
rural poor," Chand said.

"In order to maximise benefits from opportunities posed
by advanced technologies we need to adjust to the emerging
challenges of the wider world by strengthening, reforming, and
modernising our domestic and regional economies," he added.

The five-day fair themed "togetherness through trade", is
being attended by over two hundred companies from India,
Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The fair has provided a common platform to businessmen,
industrialists and traders of the region to have direct
contact, exchange of information and ideas leading to enhanced
trade and investment, he said.
