Brij Lal appointed new UP DGP

Brij Lal, a 1977-batch IPS officer, was on Saturday appointed Uttar Pradesh DGP.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday appointed Brij Lal, a 1977-batch IPS officer, as the new Director General of Police (DGP).

Brij Lal, who was till now holding the charge of Special Director General (law and order), was promoted and appointed DGP on the superannuation of RK Tiwari, who retired yesterday, officials said here.

"To resolve public grievances a helpline would be set up at DGP office, besides district and range level by which problems of the people will be solved in minimum time," Brij Lal told reporters after assuming charge.

He said that STF, ATS and other expert units of the police would be equipped with more resources and improved professionally.

"The first challenge is ongoing festival season including Duirga Puja and Dussehra," he said.

The new DGP said that for the forthcoming State Assembly Elections a poll office has been set up under ADG law and order.

He said that efforts would be made to ensure police verification of various applications including those related to passport, arms licence, character certificate and that verification is done within a stipulated time frame.
