Teenage girl immolates self in UP, abuse suspected

Lakhimpur Kheri: A teenage school girl allegedly committed suicide by immolating herself in city area here, police said on Friday.

The girl, about 16 years of age, sprinkled kerosene oil and set herself on fire this morning, they said adding that the girl succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

"A case has been lodged against a youth and his mother who have been accused of exploiting the girl in the name of marriage for the last two years," Superintendent of Police (SP), Arvind Sen said.

The victim had recorded a statement before her death stating that she was exploited by a youth in her neighbourhood and his mother.
