Rumour triggers rush to private bank's ATMs in Bagnan

The bank auhthorities were not available for comment.

Howrah (WB): Policemen from local outposts were deployed in front of some ATMs in Bagnan area of Howrah district tonight after a crowd flocked on hearing rumour of getting higher than the amount asked for.

Eyewitnesses and local political leaders said words spread that the many were getting double the stipulated typed amount from a private bank ATMs and there was a crowd before some ATMs in the locality as words spread.

However, not a single person was found to get such benefit.

A police officer said on receipt the information of a crowd gathering before ATM kiosks, policemen were sent to some such locations to keep tab on the situation but there was no rational basis to such news.

There was no law and order situation either, he confided.

The bank auhthorities were not available for comment.

However, the shutters of ATMs of the said bank in the area was downed in the later hours, the officer said.
