`Kolkatans do not talk well about the city`

People in Kolkata have a negative mindset towards the city instead of highlighting what it has to offer, says city-born Jewish author Jael Silliman.

Kolkata: People in Kolkata have a negative mindset towards the city instead of highlighting what it has to offer, says city-born Jewish author Jael Silliman.
"People in Kolkata have a tendency to not talk well about the city and not give it its due. Everybody criticises the city and not talk about what Kolkata has really to offer," said Silliman at the fourth Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival here Saturday.
Shedding light on the relationship between Jews and the city, she said though the strength of the community in Kolkata has dwindled to only 20 from 4,000 over the centuries, the small number felt very comfortable and "very well integrated" in the city. "The Jews are very well integrated and very comfortable in this city," said Silliman. Speaking on women`s identity, Silliman, who was born and brought up in Kolkata and educated in the US, said one must consider each cultural community individually. IANS
