Jerusalem, May 07: Under international pressure to deliver on a withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, Ariel Sharon was looking for a way today to salvage his "disengagement"
plan, which the Israeli premier's own Likud Party rejected.

There was no let up in violence, as four Palestinians were wounded late yesterday when Israeli troops raided the northern West Bank city of Tulkarem, Palestinian security
sources said.

A dozen Israeli jeeps and tanks entered the city in the nighttime operation, they said.

A Palestinian was earlier shot dead by border guards in the West Bank and the body of another Palestinian was found in Gaza.

The United Nations also issued a warning over growing tension on the Israeli-Lebanese border.

Contradictory reports and declarations continued to appear in the Israeli press on how Sharon would resolve the crisis sparked by Likud's overwhelming rejection of his
disengagement plan in a Sunday referendum.

His deputy, Trade Minister Ehud Olmert, said in an interview published on Thursday that the plan would not be watered down to satisfy Jewish settlers as he had earlier
suggested.
