Brasilia, June 03: A Brazilian air force plane early on Wednesday found more and bigger debris from the Air France flight that went down in the Atlantic, some distance from where other items were spotted, a spokesman said.
"Several objects spread over a five-kilometer radius,
including an apparently metallic object seven meters in
diameter and a fuel slick" were discovered, Colonel Jorge
Amaral told reporters.

Another 10 objects, some metallic, were found, along with
a jet fuel slick stretching 20 kilometers from the spot, he
said.

Amaral added that the new debris was discovered 90
kilometers south of the zone where other items -- including a
plane seat, cables and aircraft components -- were discovered
yesterday.

The air force plane that found both sets of debris, an
Embraer R-99, was fitted with a special multi-spectrum scanner
able to detect objects in the water. It found the extra debris
at 0640 GMT (1210 hrs IST), Amaral said.

Eleven aircraft were deployed today to wide the search,
he said. Five Brazilian navy vessels were heading to the spots
where the debris was found, with the first expected to arrive
late today. Three merchant ships, one French and two Dutch,
were in the zone since yesterday.
