Moscow, July 05: In yet another move to restore stability in the breakaway Caucasian Republic, Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared presidential polls in Chechnya on October 5.
According to the Kremlin Press Service, Putin signed the decree setting the date for the election of Chechnya president after his meeting with the leaders of interim administration yesterday.
Earlier in March, in the constitutional referendum held despite a series of terrorist attacks by ultras demanding a separate homeland, the people of Chechnya overwhelmingly voted to remain within the Russian federation.
Yesterday Putin also signed another decree providing for the completion of anti-terror operation by the federal security service - FSB - on September 1 and transfer of law and order maintenance by the interior ministry in which over 12 thousand locally recruited police force would play a pivotal role in ending almost 12 years long insurgency in Chechnya.
