Moscow: Ten militants were killed on Wednesday
in two separate security operations in the volatile Republic
of Dagestan in Russia`s North Caucasus region.
The militants were killed in gunfights with security
forces in the suburbs of Makhachkala and Kaspiysk, RIA Novosti
news agency reported.
Quoting the National Anti-terrorism Committee (NAC),
the report said some other militant groups have also been
surrounded in the two suburbs on the shores of the Caspian
Sea.
Since the twin suicide bomb attacks in March on the
Moscow metro and a series of terror blasts in the south of the
country were traced to Dagestan, the federal authorities have
launched major anti-militancy operations in Dagestan, Chechnya
and neighbouring Caucasus regions.
Scores of militants, allegedly linked to foreign
radical Islamist groups, have been killed in these operations.
