Delhi: The IPL incident that recently resulted in cutting short the careers of Indian cricketers Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila – the trio’s involvement in the infamous spot-fixing – is now to be portrayed on celluloid. The three players of the IPL 6 team Rajasthan Royals have been booked for their alleged participation in the betting racket and now Malayalam filmmakers Shaji Kailas and AK Sajan are gearing up for a film based on the same.
The Malayalam film, which is reportedly titled ‘Cricket’, is to be loosely based on Sreesanth’s life. The script has already been preliminarily discussed by the duo Shaji Kailas and AK Sajan and is about the rise and fall of a young Malayali cricketer. ‘Cricket’, which – to a certain extent – finds its roots in the IPL scandal that has been instrumental in rocking the entire country a few days back, will have Sajan as its script-writer and will be directed by Shaji. Shaji was quoted by a daily as saying, “In Sreesanth`s case, a role model for young aspiring crickets has been destroyed. It`s a blessing to reach the heights he has attained in Indian cricket, but to squander it all for greed... there`s no one else to blame but himself. The movie will focus on how the youth today are more materialistic and adopt negative means to attain their goals. We want it to deliver a strong message.”
