September 28, 2002: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's white land cruiser rammed into American Bakery Shop in Bandra, killing one person and injuring four. The actor was arrested but granted bail the same day.

October 2002: Charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder was filed against the actor by the police.

May 2003: Salman challenged the application of this charge before the sessions court, although the court rejected his plea and applied the section to the case, after which he moved the Bombay high court. The HC held that section 304 part II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) was not applicable in the case.

June 2003: Bombay high court drops culpable homicide charge and the actor is then tried for rash and negligent driving.

October 2003: The state moved the Supreme Court (SC) against the order. The SC set aside both the orders and held that the magistrate should, after perusal of the evidence, decide whether the harsher section is applicable to the case.

October 2007: Key witness in the case, a constable, who was deputed in the security detail, dies.

December 2012: Court added the section and committed the trial to sessions court.

August 19, 2013: The case was then assigned to a new judge.

November 19, 2013: Salman pleaded for fresh trial before the sessions court.

December 5, 2013: Fresh trial was ordered.

March 30, 2015: Salman Khan’s driver Ashok Singh said that it was he who was driving the car and not the actor.
