Don't call our players illiterate, India is proud of them: Vijay Goel to Javed Akhtar on 'hardly literate player' jibe

New Delhi: Days after Javed Akhtar called Yogeshwar Dutt a 'hardly literate wrestler', Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel on Thursday replied back asking the lyricist not to use such words for India's champions who have earned laurels in their respective fields.

In the ongoing Gurmehar Kuar-ABVP protest row, Akhtar entered the debate when Yogeshwar Dutt trolled the Delhi University student by posting a meme.

Vijay Goel wrote on his official Twitter account, "PLEASE DON'T CALL OUR PLAYERS ILLITERATE. You're a champion in your field & they are champions in their own field. India is proud of them!"

Earlier on February 28, Akhtar tweeted, "If a hardly literate player or a wrestler troll a pacifist daughter of a martyr its understandable but whats wrong with some educated folks."

Akhtar's tweet was slammed by the sports fraternity where Yogeshwar, and the entire Phogat family slammed him for his insulting remark.
