Born in Amritsar, Kapil's father was a head constable in Punjab Police and mother a housewife. He studied in Dav Public School, Lawerence road and then went on complete his higher education from Khalsa College, Amritsar.
It was in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, 2007 where Kapil first appeared, doing stand-up comedy on the small screens. He won the show and got a prize money of Rs 10, lakh. Before this big win, he had done several shows and stand-ups.
Kapil became an overnight star after his successful stint on Comedy Circus where he won as many as six seasons. Then in 2013, he started his maiden show titled 'Comedy Nights With Kapil' which not only became a huge success but also made Kapil a household name.
In a surprising move, Kapil, who is known for keeping his personal life hush-hush introduced his girlfriend Ginni Chatrath on Twitter. He has been in a steady relationship with her for a long time.
