New Delhi: Punjabi singer turned actor Diljit Dosanjh made his smashing debut in Bollywood with 'Udta Punjab' and even won several awards for it. The actor-singer's upcoming venture 'Soorma' is a sports biopic based on the life of hockey player Sandeep Singh. The film is directed by Shaad Ali and produced by Sony Pictures. Recently, we got to know an interesting trivia about why Sandeep Singh practised only in railway stations.

The recently unveiled Soorma Anthem which features Diljit Dosanjh practising on a Railway station has a story behind it.

If reports are to be believed, Sandeep Singh who was injured at a Railway compartment made him practise the game more at the Railway station.

Sandeep. who was trying to recover from his injury, chose to practise Hockey at Railway premises to recover quickly. A similar scene has been created  in the film where Diljit is seen practising on a Railway platform

Soorma tells the tale of how Sandeep struggles to get on his own feet after an accidental gunshot left him paralyzed for two years. The trailer also showcases the journey of the 2009 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup which they won under his captaincy.

Starring Diljit Dosanjh as Sandeep Singh, the film also features Taapsee Pannu. The trailer of the sports flick looks impressive and hits you hard.

Sandeep Singh is an ace hockey player and an ex-captain of the Indian National Team. In 2006, Singh, an Arjuna Awardee was seriously injured after being hit by an accidental gunshot in a train, while on his way to join the national team, set to leave for the World Cup in Germany two days later.

He was almost paralysed and was in the wheelchair for two years. Singh not only recovered from that serious injury but also established himself again in the team.

Written and directed by Shaad Ali, the biopic will also feature Chitrangada Singh and Angad Bedi.

After Udta Punjab, Diljit shared screen space with Anushka Sharma in her home production Phillauri which released in March 2017.
