Love at last for Vivek Oberoi

Vivek is all set to marry Priyanka, it sure seems to be the Bollywood wedding of the year.

Vivek Oberoi announced his arrival in Tinsel Town with a big bang and shot to instant fame with his debut film ‘Company’. Quite well-known for his charity work for the uplift of the down-trodden and the needy, Vivek got entangled in a web of sleazy controversies; thereby proving to one and all that success comes at a huge price. And even a star kid like Vivek is not spared when it comes down to fighting speculations and public scorn. So with the actor all set to take a leap into matrimony, here’s taking a look at Vivek’s tumbling career, which was more or less controlled by his romantic relationships.
The Aishwarya Rai saga
Vivek was briefly engaged to his long-standing girlfriend Gupreet Gill before entering the film industry. But he called off his engagement for reasons which are as yet unknown. Junior Oberoi then started seeing a far more established Aishwarya Rai. The former Miss World, who was older to him and perhaps quite a big star by then was “quite serious” about her relationship with the young budding actor. The couple were spotted at various events and parties together and looked quite inseparable.
The then real life couple was paired opposite each other in ‘Kyon…Ho Gaya Na’. The film was very much in news over a lip-locking scene between Rai and Oberoi. The much hyped romantic flick however, could not create any spark and proved to be a miserable flop at the Box Office. The “Rai-Oberoi” love saga did not last for long and the couple called it quits soon after an awful controversy.
Vivek and his biggest foe Salman
A spat between Vivek and Salman led to the formers’ “downfall”. Grapevine has it that Salman Khan had allegedly been harassing Aishwarya Rai over her relationship with Vivek. And when the young actor came to know of his lady’s misery, he in a fit of rage impulsively called for a press conference. This in turn proved to be Vivek’s biggest mistake that he would go on to repent later in life.
As for the press conference, Vivek accused Salman of troubling Aishwarya and threatening him because of his closeness with the actress. Salman chose to keep mum on the entire speculation. However, the controversy ended on a very embarrassing note leaving young Vivek helpless. Since then, the actor has been seen apologising to Salman Khan at various public events and calling his act “childish”. Buzz has it that Aishwarya had instigated Vivek for taking such a hasty step, but left him vulnerable at the end. Thus Vivek almost dug a grave for himself.
Vivek’s career started sinking even before it could shape up. His film ‘Saathiya’ was moderately successful but his films ‘Dum’, ‘Road’, ‘Darna Mana Hai’, ‘Masti’ did not garner much at the Box Office. He came into notice once again in Mani Ratnam’s multi-starrer ‘Yuva’ but could not manage to capitalize on the success of the film. A series of hopeless films just hastened the speed at which his career was sinking.
Nevertheless, Vishal Bharadwaj’s ‘Omkara’ gave a new lease of life to the talented actor. He then starred in an action thriller ‘Prince’ which proved to be yet another flop.
The comeback
Vivek’s parents Suresh and Yashodhara have been much concerned for their son’s wavering love life. They always knew they were best to choose the right girl for their son. And after bearing such misery for his own pathetic love choices, Vivek was more than happy to leave the task of finding his dream partner to his parents.
With Priyanka Alva’s arrival in Vivek’s life, things have taken a dramatic turn around. His plunging career is now set to make a movement upwards with his latest flick ‘Rakta Charita’, a trilingual, to be released in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. He got engaged to the lady in the first week of September and is all set to tie the nuptial-knot with her on 29th October.
Priyanka who is basically from Bangalore is the daughter of danseuse Nandini Alva and late Janata Dal leader Jeevaraj Alva. As a student, Priyanka spent most of her life overseas. She is Business Management Graduate from London and has also studied in New York where her subjects mainly dealt with NGOs and social work.
The dusky beauty has had no connections with the film industry. Currently, she is working with ‘Artistes Foundation for Arts’, a NGO initiated by her family and has been helping her Mother raise funds for several orphanages. Like Vivek, Priyanka too is quite passionate about lending a helping hand towards the under-privileged.
Now that this Punjabi munda is ready to don the sehra and take the saat pheres with the Bengaluru girl, it sure seems to be the Bollywood wedding of the year. The senior Oberois turned brilliant match-makers for their son and have truly made it look heavenly.
Here’s wishing, Vivek and Priyanka a blissful married life and a great future ahead.
