Amritsar assembly election results 2017: Navjot Singh Sidhu wins

Amritsar: Punjab's spiritual capital Amritsar participated with enthusiasm in Punjab assembly elections 2017. Brisk polling was recorded across the 5 constituencies in the city and 6 others spread across the district.

Overall in the state, a high voter turnout record of 77.37 per cent when voting was held on February 4. Punjab Assembly Election results 2017 will be declared on February 11.

Counting will begin at 8 am.

However, the voting pattern in Amritsar (central) has not shown much difference. It recorded 65 per cent polling this year as against 64.50 per cent in 2012 assembly polls.

The city of Amritsar is divided into five constituencies namely Amritsar (North), Amritsar (West), Amritsar (Central), Amritsar (East), Amritsar (South). Barring the city, there are six more constituencies making the total number 11 across Amritsar district.

The district has witnessed re-polling in around 48 polling stations.

Amritsar North

The candidate representing BJP from North is Anil Joshi, while Manish Aggarwal and Sunil Joshi stand for AAP and INC respectively.

Amritsar West

From Amritsar (West) Rakesh Gill is Contesting for BJP. AAP and INC have faith in Balwinder Singh Sahota and Raj Kumar Verka

Amritsar Central

Tarun Chugh, Ajay Gupta and Om Prakash Soni are contesting on behalf of BJP, AAP and INC from Amritsar (Central)

Amritsar East

Rajesh Kumar Honey is representing BJP from Amritsar (East) while Sarabjot Singh Dhanjal and Navjot Singh Sidhu are have contested for AAP and INC.

Amritsar South

Surprisingly, Amritsar (South) has no BJP representation. Inderbir Singh Nijjar has contested on behalf of AAP and Inderbir Singh Bolaria of INC.
