New Delhi: While scientists are pushing the boundaries in their search for life beyond Earth and the solar system, an 'alien tomato' has found its way to social media and is creating a frenzy of sorts.

An image was posted by Reddit-user CroixBeans, of what looks like a strawberry inside the tomato and has been dubbed 'strawmato', The Sun reported.

Reddit users have commented extensively, applying all sorts of theories, with some saying its the result of a mutant crossbreeding, while some have suggested that it could be extra-terrestrial.

According to The Sun, CroixBeans described the texture of the 'strawberry' as soft and slimy and said that 'barely touching it smudged it pretty easily,'.

After all the mayhem and bizarre theories, one Reddit user came up with a more plausible explanation:

"It’s a stuffing tomato, they are bred to be firmer than your typical slicing tomato so they don’t disintegrate in the oven," Sporophyte wrote. Adding, "The seeds are meant to pull away from the outside like that, so they can be easily removed."
