Chennai to miss out as ICC World T20 host amid ICC-BCCI disagreement?

New Delhi: Amid the rift between International Cricket Council (ICC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chances of Chennai to host the ICC World Cup T20 matches have become bleak, according to a report.

While the deadlock on the total number of venues for next year's World Twenty20 in India stays unresolved between the ICC and BCCI, the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is fighting its own battle over the three locked stands – as per the report in ESPNCricinfo.

When the BCCI and ICC officials met in Mumbai on Sunday to discuss about the venues for the coveted event, the cricket board looked interested in using eight grounds, whereas, the international body is in favour of only five.

At the same time, BCCI too isn't keen on having the Chidambaram stadium on its shortlist as the ICC has reportedly said that they don't want empty stands in the grounds during the matches.

Now the deadlock over the issue will reamin till June end when the ICC Board meet in Barbados.

On top of it, another venue in Chennai, Chepauk stadium too, has been facing issues as it's I, J and K stands have been locked for the last three years as the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association is yet to get the approval for using the stands during matches. And that's another issue ICC is particularly worried about, as per the report.

33 matches are scheduled to take place over 24 days during the coveted event.
