Pak opener Manzoor hopes `maiden` ton against Proteas will be `beginning of bigger things`

Johannesburg: Pakistani opener Khurram Manzoor has said he hoped that his maiden hundred against South Africa will be the beginning of bigger things in the future.

The right-handed batsman smashed 146 in Pakistan`s first innings total of 442, putting on an invaluable 135 for the opening wicket with debutant Shan Masood (75) to set a solid foundation for his team. According to Sport24, Manzoor, who was recalled to the side for the tour of Zimbabwe last month after a long three-year gap, said that his ton would just be the beginning, adding that he will do his best to score more to further his career. Stating that he made a mistake by getting out instead of scoring a double century, Manzoor also said that he had never lost hope despite his long absence from the team and was aware that he would get his chance one day. Hailed as one of the most polished openers on Pakistan`s domestic front, Manzoor made his debut against Sri Lanka in the fateful series of 2009, scoring 59 not out in the second Test. A prolific 2012/13 season in which Manzoor scored 1065 runs plus an innings of 178 in the final of the Quaid-e-Azam trophy in February this year was enough to get him a recall, the report added.
