Barasat, Jan 17: East Bengal might have lost 0-1 to Bayern Munich II in their first practice match on Saturday, but coach Subhas Bhowmick said he is happy with his boys performance especially when he opted not to play any national players.Against a side which boasts Bayern Munich reserves, East Bengal had their share of chances but only to see them squander.
Bayern Munich II settled the issue early into the first-half with their striker Yilmaj shooting a powerful angular shot into the East Bengal net. In the third minute of the match at Barasat Stadium, Yilmaj came from right end of the corner of the box with his shot deceiving the rookie East Bengal goalkeeper Avijit Ghosh. Having gone 1-0 up, the German youngsters became casual in their attack. East Bengal had their best chance in the second-half but Goutam Kujur messed it up at the last moment. In the second-half of the match, Kujur failed to beat Bayern goalie Ried Mueler, while Saumik Dey missed out on a an easy chance. But East Bengal`s newly-appointed coach Subhas Bhowmick said the 1-0 scoreline was not bad against a side who are currently placed eighth in the third division German league. "Bayern played good while we also played well. I wanted to test how our youngsters are technically and physically against the reputed side and I am quite satisfied," Bhowmick told reporters after the match. Bureau Report
