Arsenal FC set sights on Porto's Danilo Pereira: Reports

New Delhi: After their 2-1 win over Manchester City, Arsenal have emerged as genuine title contenders this season.

With just two points behind Leicester City on the league table, boss Arsene Wenger is looking to bolster his team for the second half of the season.

According to reports in the British media, the Gunners have set their sights on Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira.

Following injuries to Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin, the north Londoners are hunting for a suitable candidate to slot in as a defensive midfielder.

Reports suggest that Arsenal scouts are in Porto to take a look at the 24-year-old.

Having been impressed by the midfielder, Arsenal are likely to make a formal bid for Pereira in January.

Porto will try to fend off Arsenal's approach for the player, but a big money offer is bound to seal the deal.

The Portuguese club has often sold talented youngsters in their ranks to big European clubs and Pereira appears to be the latest hot property in town.

Having failed to capitalize on strong starts in the past, Wenger is sensing blood and wants to leave no stone unturned in his bid to capture the title.

With Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool struggling, Arsenal are in pole position to end their Premier League drought in 2016.

Often criticized for being reluctant in bringing out his cheque book, the Frenchman deserves full marks if he can pull off Danilo's signing in January.
