Wayne Rooney expects new signing Anthony Martial to succeed

Serravalle: Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney backed new signing Anthony Martial to be a success following his move from French Ligue 1 side Monaco.

The 19 year-old became the world's most expensive teenager after United agreed to sign the forward for an initial fee of 36 million pound, possibly rising to 58m pound depending on performance bonuses.

Rooney said he was forced to ask French teammate Morgan Schneiderlin for more information on the youngster following the deadline day move but believes Martial has the talent to prosper at Old Trafford.

"It's been well documented I have not seen that much of him to be honest, so I can't really say too much on him."

"I saw him last season against Arsenal where he had a fantastic game, so hopefully he will be a great signing for us," Rooney was quoted as saying by goal.com on Friday.

"He has got a lot of ability from what I have seen and I am sure he will be a good player for us," the United captain said.
