Subrata Bhattacharya takes up coaching job for East Bengal

After playing for Mohun Bagan for 17 years and then guiding maroon and blue to the national league title twice as a coach, former India Captain Subrata Bhattacharya will coach his one time arch-rivals East Bengal football team this season.

Kolkata, May 23: After playing for Mohun Bagan for 17 years and then guiding maroon and blue to the national
league title twice as a coach, former India Captain Subrata Bhattacharya will coach his one time arch-rivals East Bengal football team this season. After Beinmg selected as the coach, Subrata, the noted defender of Kolkata maidan during the 70's and 80's, for the first time arrived at East Bengal Club tent on Wednesday amidst a big ovation from the members and supporters of red and yellow brigade.

Reacting to members' response, Subrata said "I am overwhelmed by the response from the East Bengal members and supporters. I want to carry forward the trophy winning tradition of East Bengal Club. I hope I would be able to live up to the expectation of the members and fans of the club".

Regarding his shifting of allegiance to the new club, the former Bagan skipper said, "I know that people are talking about my taking up this job. Let them be happy with their opinions. But I have done nothing wrong. I know I am not a traitor".

Subrata took the charge of East Bengal from Brazilian Coach Caros Roberto Perreira.
