He makes good adjustment to make the save but can't hold on to the ball. The defender comes to his rescue to mop up the rebound. 84' - Djourou taken a yellow card for the team. He brought down Arroyo who was moving into a dangerous position. Steve von Bergen was the last man for Swiss, which is why Djourou got only a yellow. Nothing comes from the free-kick as the shot from Shaqiri hits straight into the wall. 81' - Cristhian Noboa makes a rash challenge on Xherdan Shaqiri. The Swiss have a free-kick in a great position to snatch a winner. 78' - The atmosphere has inside the stadium has been one of the best so far at this World Cup. But the heat is sapping the energy of the players. Humid conditions. 76' - Jefferson Antonio Montero is taken off by Ecuador in favor of J. Rojas. This is a baffling choice, unless Montero has a niggle. He has been the most effective player today. 74' - CHANCE! Switzerland launches another quick break as they have a three-to-two advantage against the Ecuadorian defense. Shaquiri fires his shot from the left and it thunders into the side netting. This is end to end stuff. 68' - The dangerous Montero bursts forwardyet again and releases his shot, which is blocked by Benaglio. 66' - The little Swiss magician Shaqiri tries to get Rodriguez behind the Ecuador defense but Paredes gets there first. 62' - What a humdinger of a contest this is turning out to be. There is plenty of time for either team to sneak in a winner here. It's impossible to choose between them right now. 60' - Enner Valencia almost gets his second of the match. His curling effort from outside he box goes inches above the Swiss crossbar. That was mighty close. 57' - Carlos Gruezo lets one rip from long range but fails to execute the shot well. 54' - Juan Carlos Paredes receives a yellow card. He needlessly fouled the goalscorer, Mehmedi. 50 ' - The Swiss are suddenly looking lively upfront after that goal. They had gone in a bit of a shell in the middle of the first half. Ricardo Rodriguez with the assist for that goal. The Swiss fans have found their voice in the stands now. UNBELIEVABLE! The substitute has scored in just 2 minutes of coming on. A bullet header by Mehmedi off a corner. 48' - GOAL! Admir Mehmedi First substitution of the match by Switzerland. Valentin Stocker off. Admir Mehmedi on. 46'- The final 45 minutes of the match are underway. Here we go... Ecuador will be more than happy to go into the break with a goal to their credit. They managed to soak all the early pressure from the Swiss and scored from a set-piece against the run of play. Since then, they have resolutely defended their lead. Switzerland have not managed to carve out any clear cut openings. They need to involve their best attacking players much more in the second half. b>HALF TIME: Switzerland 0 - 1 45'- Two minutes of added time has been signaled. 44'- As he did in the early moments in this match, Montero has been a constant menace for Switzerland. Djourou blocks his attempt as he cut in from the left. 41'- Switzerland just have five minutes in this half to get their equalizer. Ecuadorian defense has so far been able to handle everything that has been thrown at them. 38'- Dominguez has been rock solid for Ecuador in goal so far. Swiss captain Inler's effort is tipped away by him. 36'- Appeals for a penalty by Switzerland as Fricson Erazo looked to have made contact to the ball with his hand. The ref is not interested. 35'- Shaqiri's corner delivery from a corner is met with a header by Valon Behrami. Dominguez in goal spills the collections but is quick enough to pick up the pieces on his second attempt. No harm done. 32'- Valentin Stocker is denied by Juan Carlos Paredes who makes a timely last minute challenge. Superb defending. 29'- Gokhan Inler and Stephan Lichtsteiner involved in a lovely exchange down Switzerland's right. it must be said that the Ecuador defense has done a fine job so far. Enner Valencia is in some form. The man has scored in all of his last five games for his country. 25'- Diego Benaglio could do nothing about the goal as Valencia headed the ball precisely into the ground. The famed Switzerland defense has been breached through a simple set-piece. Hitzfeld won't be pleased. 23'- W. Ayovi with the assist. The Swiss fans are in a state of shock. Ecuador score against the run of play, it must be said. Enner Valencia was left open and he made no mistake in heading home the opener for Ecuador off a free-kick. 22'- GOAL! Enner Valencia 20'- The Swiss are now mounting attacks on the Ecuadorian goal. Dominguez is called on again as Drmic fires in another shot to his left side. 16'- Like we were saying a while back. If there was someone who could light this match up, it would be Shaqiri. The Bayern Munich man shakes off his man and lets one fly. The shot is accurate and Alexander Dominguez does well to save it. 14'- Staying true to their reputation, the Swiss have been compact at the back and have not been found wanting by this Ecuador attack so far. In their last seven games at the World Cup, Hitzfeld's men have just let in one goal. 12'- Jorge Guagua's timely challenge prevents Drmic from scoring there. Xhaka's resulting long range effort goes blazing over the top of the crossbar. 9'- Apart from that early run by Montero's, this has been a scrappy affair so far, with both teams not willing to gamble. Shaqiri is one man who would bring back the spark into this match. 4' - Jefferson Montero showcases his raw pace as he manages to get in behind the Swiss defense. Unfortunately, he cannot keep the ball in play. 1'- Here we go. The atmosphere is electric like it has been for every World Cup game. Ravshan Irmatov is the referee for today's match. The teams are already on the pitch. Its time for the national anthems and the fans to join in. Switzerland have a reputation for being extremely strong at the back. These two teams have never met before. However, the Swiss come into this World Cup on the back of a strong performance in the qualifiers where they remained undefeated. Ecuador have never drawn a game in World Cup history. That stat bodes well for all the neutrals watching this game. They too will be looking to keep things tight at the back and hit the Swiss on the counter.
