I was a good friend of complainant in the past, her allegations are false: Sardar Singh
Sardar said that even though he was good friends with Ashpal, he hadn't met her in the last two to three years.
New Delhi: Reacting to serious allegations of sexually harassing international hockey player Ashpal Bhogal, Indian skipper Sardar Singh on Thursday once again denied all the allegations and said he had not met the complainant in the last 2-3 years.
Speaking to reporters at a conference, Sardar said that he has a lot of respect for women and would never do anything as claimed by Bhogal.
Sardar further said that his Twitter account was misused and his focus at the moment is on hockey and everything else happening around him, are just distractions. He denied charges of sexually, mentally harassing the woman.
Sardar said that even though he was good friends with Ashpal, he hadn't met her in the last two to three years.
"We were good friends. We used to meet. I met her through Facebook before London Olympics but I didn't meet her there at that time," Sardar said.
Sardar kept reiterating that he needs to see the report first and then respond, something which he said as his first reaction, soon after the controversy triggered yesterday.
Earlier, Bhogal, who is a British citizen and a hockey player herself, filed a complaint at the Koom Kalan police station at Sri Bhaini Shaib in Ludhiana saying that she was engaged to Sardar for four years and he mentally and physically harassed her.
She also said that after a four-year relationship, Sardar now refused to marry her and was also not picking her calls.
The complaint filed by the girl is being verified by Ludhiana police. However, the complainant's lawyer PS Hundal said that it's a cognisable offence, and the police can take action soon.
