Mumbai: Superstar Salman Khan feels India should aim to produce medal-winning athletes by encouraging sports and help the talented ones to unlock their potential through coaching.
Salman was speaking here last night at the music launch of `Khwaabb`, a sports drama film showcasing the struggle of our athletes. The album is available on Junglee Music.
"I have played all kind of sports in life like football, cricket, swimming, skating, riding, etc. I think sports in general should be encouraged, I feel such films will make you realize that there is no facility for training. If that is not there.. Then how will they perform and then people say our guys are not winning Olympic medals. There is no encouragement. I think India should buck up," Salman said.
The film is an intense journey set in the larger, bureaucratic world of Indian sports. It illustrates why a country with a population of 1.2 billion people cannot produce winners.
`Khwaabb` is the story of two such athletes and their struggle to succeed in the cutthroat, debauched and mired world of Indian sports.
Ask him what facilities are required for sportsmen, Salman says, "I think equipments, coaching should be top of the line, quota for poor, these small things make huge encouragement and difference."
Apparently, Salman, who is supporting the film, has made some changes in it.
"I have made changes.. Its just like the pace of the film, there was length issue so I trimmed it and made it fast paced, with background score. It is a nicely made film with a good intention," the actor said.
Salman associated himself with a small film like this because he believes such movies do need encouragement.
"Small films are made with passion and love. These films don`t see light of the day. I feel these films need to be supported... Our support makes a difference. Small films should get fair chance so that they get released," he said.
The `Dabbangg` Khan does plan to produce small films. He has launched a production house -- Being Filmi -- for this initiative.
Produced by Arjuna awardee Moraad Ali Khan, the film is directed by Zaid Ali Khan and features newcomers Navdip Singh and Simer Motiani in lead roles.
"If you are a sports lover, or a sportsperson or your kids play sports; I can assure you that Khwaabb will relate to some part of your own story. The story is truly entertaining and inspirational," producer Moraad Ali said.
